You can't do Freesync and have uncompressed 5. You should be able to do both. I just replaced my 15 year old receiver, got this TV, and bought 4 extra speakers for Atmos. I need some clarification, as to be honest the Samsung support staff are hopeless with knowing anything about their own products.
I was on chat with support enquiring about the eARC firmware update for this soundbar, he replies to me saying it doesn't have eARC?! But still no luck with the streaming apps while they advertise Atmos lossy.
Do you see the Dolby Atmos logo appearing in these apps on the content page? Just an update guys, apparently though not concrete the update may be delayed to December due to the testing stage. It still might arrive this month, but there is potential for it to arrive December. That's what I thought. In December there will be some another reason to delay the update until January and so on. Apparently reviewers teamed up with Samsung to fool customers and lie about eARC support.
I wonder what did they get in return? Ah darn, that's a huge red flag for me. It starts like this before you know it it's and they'll just cancel the update with the hope we get suckered into buying the soundbar. I want Dolby Atmos sound from my Xbox One X without connecting it directly to the soundbar I lose game mode and variable refresh rate if not plugged into the TV. The only way to do this is with eARC. Samsung please update the firmware on the Q70R tv! Dont know why your getting issues? Running my Xbox one x through sound bar and still able to play in game mode and getting atmos.
This is how I have it set up. You can manually turn on Game mode but not variable refresh rate. Then there's the lipsync issues. The soundbar got the eARC update and if the TV gets it as well then most of these issues will be solved. I have my Xbox one X directly into my Sansung Q90R soundbar and getting true atmos and still getting freesync.

So just to quickly recap, many review websites mentioned the Q90R soundbar already benefited from the eARC firmware update during Spring some other reported this was in July After many tests with differents guys in specialized forums, this was clear this update never happened and currently these soundbars don't have eARC connection!
So we decided to get in touch with Stephen Withers who is the journalist behind most of these reviews mentioning eARC was already on, we contacted him on Twitter and then all the following information arrived :. This update is again delayed, soundbars model are announced and will feature eARC obviously. SO there is basically no chance to see this update coming and Samsung has simply pissed on their customer's face! Sound quality is awesome. Sound quality is equally awesome. Personally I will finally continue to fight. But I don't think using only the earcSamsungGate can make a difference.
But still you can continue doing it! What we need now is go further and first create a petition on change. With a petition this will be easier to enroll fooled Samsung's consumers and get their voice. This petition should only be dedicated to soundbars, I think that also customers of 's TV from Samsung are waiting for an eARC update that will never come certainly.

This won't be enough Yes some of them actually broadly spread the false information on eARC but please don't forget that they had this info from Samsung and they can't really test all functionalities of products sometimes to verify what brands claim.

As someone in the software industry, I knew immediately that the update wasn't gonna come out in November when Stephen mention they're in the testing stage. And now he mentioned it might be in December because there was an issue during testing, that is definitely not happening either in my mind.
Work grinds to a halt as you get closer to the holidays too. Maybe if you're a startup, yes, but not a hardware-first large organization like Samsung which probably has many processes and a ton of bureaucracy in place.I am in the same boat as you and looks like K people that are waiting for this update. Come on Samsung, we are counting on you to come through. We apologize for the delays.
Upon checking with the senior technicians, they have confirmed that Q80R will not be supporting eARC. It is not a seamless action though. If the ducks are aligned and Atmos is on, the soundbar will display Atmos not lossless sound though. I would hate to think this is another Samsung vs Apple issue. No reply. The picture quality linked with the soundbar output is fantastic and I continue to be very impressed with the sound bar after having a large speaker 5.
The immersive sound especially when Atmos is functioning is brilliant with extremely rich bass. In a way Samsung are letting themselves down by knocking off the edge of the potential for this fantastic technology.
